The Millennial Project 2.0

Hydrogen is a great energy storage medium. Though it has been touted as unsafe, the reality is that it has been proven to be no more dangerous than the tank of gas in your car. Though hydrogen is a dense energy source, its low density means it has a rather large volume at STP (standard temperature and pressure) To increase the density of the system, it is therefore necessary to compress the hydrogen. This is all well and good, but there will be some boil-off no matter how well the tank is built. Hydrogen's density can also be increased by cooling it: at very low temperatures the hydrogen will condense into liquid hydrogen. To keep a large amount of hydrogen at this temperature would be prohibitively costly, thus the problem of large scale hydrogen storage remains. More research is required to discover methods of condensing hydrogen economically.
